Recently, we have received a lot of feedback from our customers about their e-bikes being stolen. We all know how frustrating and disappointing this can be, as the more owners enjoy their e-bikes, the more disappointed they become. For owners whose e-bikes have not yet been stolen, it's best to take preventative measures seriously, as preventing e-bike theft is always easier said than done.

Here are some practical tips we would like to share with you.

Locking and parking tips:

Use different types of locks to lock your e-bike. Using multiple locks will not only deter thieves, but also slow them down. Also, it is usually unlikely that a thief will be carrying a number of different breaking tools when stealing an e-bike. This will greatly reduce the risk of e-bike theft.

Lock the frame and wheels as close together as possible to the e-bike rack so that thieves have little room to move when stealing an e-bike.

Park your bike indoors, such as inside your home or garage. Do not park in front of your home or on the road. If you have to park outside, park your bike in a well-lit and CCTV-monitored parking area if possible.

Register and insure your e-bike:

Register your bike so that if it is stolen and recovered by the police, it may be traced back to you. We recommend that you register with 529 Garage, which offers a free service to store information about your e-bike so that the police and e-bike shops can easily search for it. You can also register your e-bike information with a number of relevant local organisations.

In order to register your e-bike, we recommend that you make a note of your e-bike serial number and order information. The serial number for Bodywel e-bikes can be found on the head tube.

What if my e-bike is stolen?

If your e-bike is stolen, firstly you should report it to the police via a non-emergency number, obtain a crime reference number and contact your insurer. You can then edit your e-bike as ‘stolen’ on the e-bike registration website.
